UGC Approval & Validity of NMIMS
Many students researching come across confusion related to UGC restrictions that were imposed on Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies’ distance learning programs in the past. This section explains what actually happened, when it happened, and the current approval status of NMIMS programs.
What Happened Earlier
In 2023 Feb, the University Grants Commission (UGC) temporarily restricted NMIMS from offering certain distance learning programs due to regulatory compliance requirements under updated UGC–DEB norms. This was a temporary regulatory action, not a permanent ban on the institution or its degrees.
What Changed
After NMIMS complied with the revised UGC–DEB guidelines, the restriction was officially removed in 2024. UGC subsequently restored NMIMS’s approval to offer distance education programs.
Current NMIMS Approval Status
NMIMS Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE) is approved by UGC–DEB to offer distance degree programs.
This approval authorises NMIMS to:
- Conduct distance MBA and other programs
- Deliver distance teaching and assessments
- Issue UGC-entitled degrees
Verification
NMIMS’s approval can be verified on the official UGC–DEB approved institutions list, where Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies is listed as an approved university to run distance programs on page 19.
